Artist Statement
When I design, I want to create a moment, I want time to stretch out and for the chaos of life to fade away. I look for quiet and I design my products to help capture that atmosphere, to evoke that sense of stillness that is so desperately needed in today's world of endless movement. To capture the beauty inherent in the now. By focusing on the now, we can eliminate the unnecessary, to whittle down an idea to its core and find the most minimal solution, as with nature there is no excess, just the grace found in the essential.
Biography
Erik Irwin is a Toronto based Industrial Designer and Artist. After originally going to school for Illustration and spending several years working as an artist and illustrator, he discovered his love for design and the more physical exploration of material design. He is currently finishing up his studies at Sheridan College, in their honours bachelor of craft and design program, with a focus on furniture and product design.
